Breathing greatly influences our mind, nervous system, and bodily systems & functions. The way we control our breath produces different effects.
Slow, calm breathing can soothe and balance the entire nervous system. This slow and gentle breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system. When we are in this "rest-and-digest" state, our body can heal, recover and recharge again. This also results in a more balanced, calm, and clear mind, which helps bring us into deeper states of relaxation and meditation.
Strong and deep breathing techniques are very powerful for activating, resetting and unblocking the mind, energy and emotional systems. Strong breathing practices activate the sympathetic nervous system. These techniques should always be followed by a long period of calm and slow breathing and guided by a fully qualified breathwork instructor.
Breathwork has a number of physical benefits. For example, it can help to improve lung function, increase oxygenation of the body, and lower blood pressure. Breathwork can also help in the management of conditions like asthma, COPD and other lung related diseases.
In addition to its physical benefits, breathwork can also have spiritual and emotional benefits. Practicing breathing exercises and mindfulness can lead to better mental health and positive emotions, and help in alleviating stress and depression. Breathing exercises also allow you to think more clearly and reduce feelings of anxiety.
